The component will be implemented by Mongol Yak Society and Mongol Bactrian Society.

Main activities: Herder family and herder societies will be promoted through technical training on quality improvement issues, other issues to be delivered to herder are household business and finance management. Exchange of experience, knowledge sharing at local, national and international levels will be important activities in this component.

At processing and marketing level, consumer research for domestic and tourist markets will be carried out. Laboratory trials and research to upgrade the processing technology and the products as well as the transfer of new technology and skills to processing enterprises will be carried out. Quality standards for selected camel and yak products will be developed and introduced. National and possibly international promotion and awareness building for Mongolian camel and yak products will be initiated with professional support.

Regional/provincial elite breeding (male) herds will be initiated and established. Access to selected male animals for herders will be facilitated. The model herd program of V.E.T. Net will be assessed and enhanced to improve the reach to other herders through organised herders’ groups and to facilitate the implementation of a breeding component.

Lobbying and adopting law and regulations to the government support for export of camel and yak products will be facilitated. Awareness rising among camel and yak herders nationally and internationally as part of promotion campaigns will be initiated.
Capacity building at managerial and technician levels of the societies and developing alliances between government and non-government organisations for policy planning and supporting herders and producers to strengthen the herder communities will be initiated.
