Objective: support the government of Mongolia to develop and test a nationwide brucellosis eradication programme and to support the development of a national action plan. The component will be implemented by Project implementation unit and Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry jointly.

Expected main results are:
- The Brucellosis eradication programme is developed and tested on pilot basis.
- Vaccine efficiency testing procedures are approved and implemented in two pilot Aimags.
- General knowledge on prevention from brucellosis infection is provided to pupils and high risk population.
- The access to diagnosis and treatment for brucellosis patients is assured at soum level.

The component will be implemented by Project implementation unit jointly with Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry.

Main activities: While defining every step of the epidemiological surveillance concept, the bases for the control programme will be developed and agreed upon. Based on the surveillance concept, the national action plan for brucellosis control has to be elaborated and piloted in two Aimags (Sukhbaatar and Zavkhan). Coordination of activities with other donor funded projects and programmes plays very important role for the implementation of this component.

A vaccination scheme and quality management for the vaccine will be elaborated ensuring the critical immunisation level for eradication of brucellosis. The project will elaborate and implement a concept to assess the immunisation in the two pilot Aimags (ZAvkhan ans Sukhbaatar), together with the action plan. The action plan will be analysed and evaluated after piloting according to the defined indicators.
Training materials such as posters, schoolbooks and contributions in TV and radio are to be produced and disseminated. Capacity building in epidemiological data analysis will be provided.

A training module on brucellosis etiology, diagnosis and treatment will be included in the continuous training to medical staff in remote areas of the two pilot Aimags. Serological surveillance in humans will be implemented in the two pilot Aimags.
